When monk seals are hurt or ill, they need the “3 Rs”—rescue, rehab, and release. We recently return endangered Hawaiian monk seal R419 to an Oʻahu beach. R419 is one of the more severe monk seal medical cases we’ve seen recently. When we collected him from the beach, he was severely underweight and had multiple, infected injuries.
