I cycled to the air force memorial in Runnymede, with great views across the valley from Windsor castle to Heathrow. This is where 20,000 airmen and women are remembered, who have no known grave. Among them is flight sergeant Charles Lucas Mallett 652146 DFM my uncle. He was born October 28th 1922, my dad's younger brother and by 1942 at the age of 20 he was already a veteran of 2 years fighting as a rear gunner in a Lancaster bomber.
