The iconic ending of “The Graduate” (1967) was partly accidental but masterfully executed by director Mike Nichols. Nichols didn’t tell the actors when the scene was over, allowing the camera to continue rolling and capture the natural fading of their excitement, to eventually come to a “what now?” moment.
