Phyllis's entree into the world of radio began with her long-standing friendship with Maye Hampton James-Holler, who took Phyllis's 1976 song, "Baby", to radio. To be called "Brother" or "Sister" in the 70s was met with some resistance and fear. People felt it insulted their intelligence and was overly used.
