I recently raised a big concern about the draft Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill: it still doesn’t tackle the huge issue of service charges. Service charges for flats have jumped by around 50% since 2018, and that’s leaving millions of people stuck with rising, unpredictable bills and very few ways to challenge them when things go wrong. The major leasehold reforms announced today by Government in the Commonhold and Leasehold Bill will be transformational for leaseholders across Dartford - capping ground rents and overturning an incredibly outdated and unfair system. We must keep up momentum up and deliver changes to those on unadopted or 'fleecehold' estates who are still victim to the appalling practises of managing agents.
