Jan 31, 2022 · After much speculation on why DTS HD-MA and DTS:X support was omitted, we have our answer. It looks like Sonos is leveraging the expired-in-2019 DTS/DCA 5.1 codec, evidenced by their claim that this is not a licensed decoder. Based on this transparent disclaimer, I think the DTS support stops here, unfortunately.

I'm just wondering now that Sonos seems to support Airplay 2, I suppose they've lost a bit of a grip on a closed ecosystem already. I assume you can simultaneously cast with Airplay 2 to a few Sonos speakers, an few Apple product like HomePod, and an xyz brand AVR that supports Airplay 2 (please correct me if that's a poor assumption).

114 votes, 69 comments. true. There is a big mess with supported WIFI Generations and Frequencies. \ Older Sonos models supports only 802.11b/g (very old WIFI 3 from 2003) on 2.4GHz - they don't support MIMO and they supports only SonosNet 1.0 (like Sonos Bridge).

May 23, 2020 · I also had a great experience with Sonos support last year. The first line of support was NOT helpful, and kept saying to move my Connect to somewhere with better signal, despite being plugged directly into the router. That was frustrating.

Mar 7, 2023 · Sonos speakers in the same room have always connected to each other over a dedicated 5GHz connection for optimal latency. Sonosnet was a 2.4GHz network for the whole home. So maybe (hopefully) you won’t need to rework your whole Sonos system if you just want to add these as satellites.

Aug 9, 2022 · The Sonos Arc does support DTS Digital Surround which is the audio format Bravia Core uses. In your TV settings, make sure you have Digital Audio Out set to Auto 1 and Passthrough set to Auto.

As others have said, some apps like Spotify and Plex have built-in support for Sonos and you can cast from those apps only, but there's no OS-wide casting support like there is for iOS. I understand your frustration - I would not want to have to go through the Sonos app, either. I use Sonos because it supports AirPlay.
