On October 29, 1970 the building was dedicated and named in memory of John G. Townsend, Jr. Townsend served as U.S. Senator for Delaware from 1929-1941 and was Delaware’s governor during WWI, from 1917-1921.

Collette Education Resource Center in Dover. [1] . Susan Bunting has served as secretary of the Delaware Department of Education since 2017.

The John G. Townsend building in the First State Heritage Park is one of the oldest building of Delaware , it houses State Department of Education and many other State agencies. It is a brick ,colonial style structure.
