Sony Music, Warner Music, and Universal Music Group reportedly have begun talks with AI startups that allow users to compose new tracks.

The talks with AI startups concern how the labels—and their artists—would get paid for music’s use in generative AI models.

Last week, The New York Times announced a new AI licensing deal with Amazon. Now, the same strategy may be coming for the music industry. Bloomberg reports that Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music Entertainment are currently in talks to license their copyrighted material to AI startups Udio and Suno.
