National Guard members who were deployed to keep the peace in Los Angeles were sent to participate in immigration raids on marijuana farms 130 miles away in the Coachella Valley, according to court documents filed by the Trump administration on Monday.

The federal appeals court’s ruling was a win for President Donald Trump as he aims to use the military to police protests of his deportation efforts.

The decision halts a ruling from a lower court judge who found Trump acted illegally when he activated the soldiers over opposition from California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
