Members of other agencies are getting detailed to assist ICE, while Justice Department personnel shift to immigration-focused teams and prioritize immigration-related cases.

The memo obtained by NPR says troops would be used in activities, including in "night operations and rural interdiction," as well as "guard duty and riot control" inside detention facilities.

Trump's move to send the California National Guard to Los Angeles came despite forceful opposition from the state's leadership.

Democrats in Congress and some military and law enforcement officials expressed concern about the plan, which Defense Department officials have not yet approved.
