A Red Flag Warning is in effect in Greater Houston until 9 p.m. Saturday due to high wildfire risk conditions such as strong winds and low humidity.

On Friday, wind gusts as strong as 85 mph resulted in widespread blowing dust in West Texas, some of which has now blown into Houston.

With strong winds and low humidity forecasted for Saturday in southeast Texas, several counties in the Houston area will be under a red flag warning as wildfire dangers begin to start in the state.

The Red Flag Warning expires Saturday night, but Sunday will still see an elevated fire danger across Southeast Texas.

"Everyone should take extra care this weekend to avoid sparking a fire," said Houston Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz.

Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with some gusts up to 45 mph are expected in San Antonio Saturday, prompting fire weather warnings.

Dugan said the forest service is staffing its offices with crews through the weekend to prepare for any calls.
