The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a flat start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 22,585 level, a premium of nearly 3 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

The BSE Sensex declined more than 817.09 points to an intra-day low of 74,493.97 on Monday, while the Nifty 50 declined 247.55 points to touch an intraday low of 22,548.35

The markets are under pressure for a gamut of reasons. Most importantly, uncertainties with regards to Trump tariff, sentiment supporting ‘Sell India, Buy China’ trade and weak US continue to weigh on investor sentiment.

Indian stock exchanges BSE and NSE will be closed today for Mahashivratri. On Thursday, the market is expected to remain volatile amid recent declines and international investor withdrawals.

Broader markets also mirrored the benchmarks as the Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 indices ended down by 1.02 per cent and 0.94 per cent, respectively
