Texas Republicans have ended a legislative session without approving new congressional maps but still plan to satisfy President Donald Trump’s wishes for redistricting that bolsters their party.

Texas House Democrats blocked the end of the first special session by maintaining a quorum break, preventing Republicans from passing new congressional maps. Speaker Dustin Burrows adjourned the session with only 95 members present—five short of quorum.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called a second special session Friday after gaveling out the first 30-day session, hamstrung by fleeing Democrats who left the state.
