Speaking ahead of Boston’s game against the Rockies on Wednesday, Alex Cora confirmed that Alex Bregman will likely rejoin the Red Sox roster before the All-Star Break (July 14-17). “Yeah, he’s hitting right now. Feeling good,” Cora said of Bregman. “There’s a good chance he’ll be with us this weekend.”
2) Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito allowed seven runs while recording just five outs in a disastrous start against the Angels on June 4. Since then, he has allowed just three earned runs in 38 ⅔ innings (0.70 ERA) over six starts.
It’s Wednesday, July 9 and the Rockies (21-71) are in Boston to take on the Red Sox (48-45). Antonio Senzatela is slated to take the mound for Colorado against Lucas Giolito for Boston.
As the Boston Red Sox continue to swing from looking like a playoff contender to a seller leading up to the trade deadline, opposing teams are at least keeping an eye on Alex Bregman's status.
Giolito has every right to feel some satisfaction. After tossing six shutout innings in a 10-2 win over the Colorado Rockies, he has now strung together six consecutive outings of six or more innings with two earned runs or fewer each time. In that span, he’s 5-0 with a 0.70 ERA and an 0.88 WHIP.
