The suspect was apprehended and charged after police investigated "suspicious activity" in Mayor Paul Young's neighborhood, the Memphis Police Department said Wednesday.

Police say a man has been charged with an attempted kidnapping of the mayor of Memphis after he went to the mayor’s house over the weekend and was later arrested with a taser, gloves, rope and duct tape in his vehicle.

The man accused of trying to kidnap Memphis Mayor Paul Young appeared in court for the first time but did not enter a plea.
