So, before Sunday’s series final vs. the Houston Astros melted down in tremendous fashion, Rangers right-handed pitcher Jack Leiter shoved. Like, flirted-with-a-no-hitter shoved, and if he’d kept his ledger clean and remained in the game, he might’ve had enough gas left in the tank to go the distance.
Despite a couple of wins against their rivals, the Texas Rangers saw late-innings leads evaporate to leave the Silver Boot skirmish tied through one series.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Isaac Paredes hit a go-ahead, three-run homer off reliever Robert Garcia in the eighth inning after Texas rookie Jack Leiter lost a no-hit bid in the seventh, and the Houston Astros rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Rangers on Sunday.
The Astros trailed the Rangers 3-0 and didn’t have a hit off of Jack Leiter until two-outs into the seventh inning. By the time top of the eighth inning ended Leiter was charged with three runs, set up man Chris Martin had left a game injured after one pitch for the second time in few days, and Texas trailed 4-3.
In his 12th career start, Rangers righty Jack Leiter finally reached a milestone that is a necessary step for anyone with any hopes of developing into a Major League ace: getting through six innings for the first time.
