The Boston Celtics may have just entered the most high-stakes sweepstakes of the NBA offseason. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Celtics are one of a few teams that could realistically pull off a trade for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and still remain championship contenders in the aftermath.

The Celtics are pretty restricted in how they can acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo because they’re above the second luxury tax apron. NBA rules prohibit them from aggregating salaries in a trade for a player with a larger salary. They also prevent the Celtics from taking in more salary than the salary that they’re giving out in any trade.

This NBA offseason could feature some of its very best players getting moved. That includes Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant. Earlier in May, The New York Post's Brian Lewis reported the Brooklyn Nets are gearing up to trade for Antetokounmpo should he become available.
