Air India will suspend services between New Delhi and Washington, D.C. from September due to aircraft shortages caused by upgrades to its Boeing planes and as Pakistan's airspace ban for Indian carriers affects its international routes.

Air India's suspension of service is "due to a combination of operational factors, to ensure the reliability and integrity" of the airline.

The Star Alliance carrier will end flights between Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and IAD on Sept. 1, Air India said Monday.
