The Wordle project is being produced by “Tonight” host Jimmy Fallon’s company Electric Hot Dog, which already has two prime-time game shows on the air at the network, “That’s My Jam” and “On Brand.” Fallon is also a producer on NBC’s version of the classic game show “Password,” which has been ordered for a third season.
Deadline understands that NBC is piloting a game show based on the New York Times game with Savannah Guthrie hosting. Jimmy Fallon is involved in the adaptation, which is filming in the UK, via his Electric Hot Dog banner. His company is producing with Universal Television Alternative Studio and the New York Times.
Guthrie’s role as the Wordle game show host would be a match made in heaven, as she has shared her love for the NY Times game multiple times on Today. Back in March, Guthrie took a trip to the newspaper’s NYC headquarters to get a behind-the-scenes look at the people behind the outlet’s variety of online games.
