The San Jose Sharks issued an apology after a scoreboard message appeared to praise ICE during Hispanic Heritage Night drew backlash from fans, who found it offensive.

Schaefer, 18, has moved in with Matt Martin, the longtime Islander fourth-liner now working as a special assistant to general manager Mathieu Darche. Martin’s family hosted Leddy along with former Islander-turned-radio-analyst Josh Bailey for a Monday night meal.

A showdown with the Sharks should provide the Islanders a chance to get things right in their own zone (and blue paint), but San Jose does have some pop with Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, Tyler Toffoli and Michael Misa, who was taken No. 2 behind Schaefer during the NHL Draft in June.

Celebrini, the Sharks' 19-year-old center, will get the full Schaefer experience Tuesday when San Jose plays the New York Islanders and their 18-year-old rookie defenseman at UBS Arena (7 p.m. ET; MSGSN, NBCSCA).

CELEBRINI SHOWED THAT HE CAN HANDLE the demands of being a top-line center last season, leading the Sharks with 63 points in 70 games and winning the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie. Smith finished tied for fourth on the team in points, with 45 in 74 games.
