The MTA released new numbers on Friday showing that despite some perceptions, the controversial tolling program has made a big impact on the number of vehicles in Manhattan.

Early data from the new congestion pricing project in Manhattan is showing increased vehicle speeds, a boon for bus riders and transit users, and an indication fees to enter the zone below 60th Street are having an impact.

Traffic in Midtown and lower Manhattan was down nearly 8% after the first full week of congestion tolling, according to preliminary traffic data released Monday by the MTA.
