Former Oakland Raiders running back Doug Martin was struggling with mental health in the months leading up to his sudden death last weekend, Martin’s family said. Martin, 36, died while he was in Oakland Police Department custody shortly after he was arrested inside a neighbor’s house before sunrise Saturday.

The statement released Monday night said family was “seeking medical assistance” for Martin, who was feeling “overwhelmed and disoriented.”
