The travel ban – which covered Cape Cod and the South Coast of Massachusetts – is lifted as of noon on Tuesday, Feb. 24, according to Governor Maura Healey. While the formal ban, which could have come with a $500 fine is lifted, people are still urged to stay off the road as there are still icy, snow covered and slushy conditions.

Some South Shore towns have already announced school closures.

While several inches of snow fall across the area, a much more powerful storm looms.

Over 40 million people remained under a blizzard warning on Monday morning, after the storm dumped more than a foot of snow in some places and strangled transit in major metropolitan areas.
