House Republicans advanced a stopgap bill Tuesday to fund the government until October, putting moderate Senate Democrats in a tough spot should the measure pass a final vote this afternoon and

The top Senate Democrat said his members were not ready to provide the votes to allow the Republican-written stopgap spending measure to pass ahead of a Friday night deadline. There is still time for a reversal.

If the bill passes the Senate, it will then head to President Donald Trump’s desk for his signature and will fund the federal government through September.
