North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw a test of short-range ballistic missiles and long-range artillery in a demonstration of Pyongyang's nuclear counterstrike capabilities, state-run media said Friday.

North Korea has fired various types of short-range ballistic missiles into its eastern sea, according to South Korea's military, which was analyzing whether the tests were linked to the North’s weapons exports to Russia amid the prolonged aggression in Ukraine.

It was the first known ballistic missile test by North Korea since 10 March when it fired a number of short range missiles, after US and South Korean troops began an annual combined military exercise, and the country's sixth launch event of the year.
