Republicans in the Alaska House tried Monday to change a resolution objecting to the renaming of Denali to Mount McKinley into a lengthy list of lavish praise for President Donald Trump, who issued the executive order making the change on his first day back in office a week ago,

The Alaska House voted 28-10 to adopt a resolution signaling their opposition to changing the name of North America’s tallest peak.

The mountain referred to as Denali by Alaska Natives for centuries was officially named Mount McKinley from 1917 until 2015, then changed to Denali in 2015 during President Barack Obama’s second term. Trump vowed during his first term in 2017 to change the name and followed through after he was reelected.

The Ptarmigan lift offering access to the top of the west side of the ski area is scheduled to open Wednesday, according to the post. The opening of the lift will also be when the ski area extends its operating hours to 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. as daily sunlight increases.
