According to an announcement from the team on X/Twitter, former Arizona Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald has signed a major league contract with the Cleveland Guardians. The deal is for one year at $7 million, with a mutual option for 2026 worth $10 million, or a $1 million buyout, per Zack Meisel of The Athletic.

The Diamondbacks should trade away Jordan Montgomery before Spring Training and get an impactful bat in return.

Relief pitcher Paul Sewald is headed to the Guardians after his role as the Diamondbacks' closer came to an unceremonious end this past season.

According to multiple reports, including MLB insider Jeff Passan, the Guardians and Sewald agreed to a 1-year deal worth $7 million guaranteed. The deal also includes a mutual option for the 2026 season worth $10 million (or a $1 million buyout if both sides agree to part ways).

Guardians officials will travel to New York next week to meet with MLB to finalize plans on how the games will be produced and distributed.

The Cleveland Guardians have many intriguing players, which will draw plenty of interest during Spring Training and into the regular season. However, RHP Slade Cecconi stands above the rest as arguably the most polarizing player on the roster due to his potential but overall lackluster performance in his limited big league appearances.
