A broadside by Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought opened up a new front in Trump’s war of words against Powell.

The White House on Thursday launched a fresh attack on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, with a top Trump administration official saying Powell had "grossly mismanaged" the central bank, chastising him for running a deficit and for extensive cost overruns for building renovations.

Bill Pulte, the Trump-appointed chair of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, claimed Powell’s congressional testimony was misleading and called for him to resign in comments reposted by the president, who echoed Pulte’s call for the Fed chair to quit ahead of the end of his second term in May 2026.
