Multiple streets were closed in downtown Chicago as a "No Kings" rally took place at Grant Park during nationwide demonstrations.
The Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners gave its provisional approval to the fest’s host Niantic at Wednesday’s monthly board meeting, with an option to renew in 2027. Dates in 2026 are set for June 5-7. Daily attendance will be capped at 40,000 people.
The festival, which Chicago hosted from 2017 to 2019, will feature immersive game experiences, merchandise and other attractions.

Pokémon GO Fest returning to Chicago's Grant Park for next two summers
The Chicago Park District Board approved a two-year permit agreement to host the Pokémon GO Fest in Grant Park.

“These grants are designed to bring new life to urban parks and ensure every resident has access to safe, modern green space,” City Councilor Tracye Whitfield said. “By not applying, Springfield has left money on the table and left our neighborhoods behind. That is an equity and civil rights issue.”
