Waymo, owned by Google's parent company Alphabet, is expanding its service area with a new swath of coverage not connected to San Francisco in the Bay Area.

Waymo is expanding deeper into the Bay Area, but it’s still skipping San Francisco International Airport — for now. The autonomous-vehicle giant on Tuesday began offering its ride-hailing service to a limited number of riders across a small swath of Silicon Valley.

You'll soon be able to order a Waymo robotaxi ride in the California cities of Mountain View, Los Altos and Palo Alto, as well as parts of Sunnyvale.

Waymo now has more than 300 driverless vehicles zipping passengers around San Francisco, but while they follow traffic laws, parking is another matter

The driverless cars picked up 589 parking tickets in San Francisco and 75 in Los Angeles last year, according to a Washington Post investigation.

Waymo told TechCrunch that they are working on the citations, which can occur for various reasons, such as when the vehicles are waiting for their next customer and briefly park in an illegal zone. They also may sometimes stop in commercial loading zones to drop off customers.
