Over the years, Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots crossed the elusive billion-dollar mark a whopping 14 times. Only once did it surpass $2 billion.

While the third time is known to be the charm, things were a little different for a lucky Illinois Lottery payer who won big using a collection of numbers that didn’t work out too well in a previous drawing.

The winning numbers for the Wednesday, Dec. 31, drawing are: 11, 18, 21, 24, 38 and the Powerball is 26. The "Power Play" multiplier is 10x.

The Idaho Lottery has posted the winning numbers for Powerball and Pick 3 for the January 7 draw.
