Current models show Jerry taking a path similar to other hurricanes this year, curving to the north and staying away from Florida and the U.S. East Coast.

Hurricane Priscilla neared Category 3 status on Tuesday in the Pacific as a new tropical storm formed and then strengthened in the Atlantic, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

"Beyond the Caribbean, a dip in the jet stream along the east coast of the United States is expected to help guide this storm to the north and then curve it out to sea," DaSilva said.
