One person was killed and eight others were injured in a pair of shootings following Chicago's official Christmas tree lighting.

CHICAGO - Chicago aldermen are calling for swift action after a massive teen takeover downtown Friday night left a 14-year-old boy dead and several others injured . Police say a large crowd of teens, possibly organized through social media, flooded the Loop shortly after the city’s tree-lighting celebration.

CHICAGO ( WGN) — At least seven teens were hospitalized on Friday following an overnight shooting in downtown Chicago. According to police, the gunfire erupted just before 10 p.m. in the 100 block of North State Street, in the Loop.

Chicago's unofficial start to the holiday season will continue on Saturday night with the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival Parade.

As many as five people were shot just outside the Chicago Theater in the Loop late Friday night, according to Chicago police.
