The highest grossing Broadway musical movie, Wicked, minted a great first seven days on PVOD with $70M, Universal reports. This is after the Jon M. Chu directed, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande movie landed in homes on Dec. 31.

The record-smashing musical has been a huge win for Donna Langley and NBCUniversal's film empire, which have proven that a movie can still be a big draw in theaters even if it goes to home entertainment early.

Universal has revealed the impressive sales on Jon M. Chu's Wicked premium video-on-demand release. The movie-musical earned more than $70 million in the U.S. and Canada in its first week available to watch at home,
