T exas House Democrats who left the state to prevent a vote on new congressional maps will return to Texas, feeling they have accomplished their mission of killing the first special session, raising awareness and sparking national backlash about the mid-decade redistricting, multiple sources confirmed to ABC station KTRK and ABC News on Tuesday.

The Democratic lawmakers were unable to block the passage of the new maps in the Senate, which passed Tuesday with Republican support. But the redistricting effort will still remain stalled for as long as House Democrats keep up their quorum break.

Democratic lawmakers in Texas once again thwarted the Republican redistricting effort in the state when the Texas House of Representatives failed to meet a quorum on Monday.
