AJ Hinch vowed that he and the Tigers will be better after suffering yet another defeat to the moribund Pirates, 8-5.

Spencer Horwitz, Bryan Reynolds and Tommy Pham each had three hits and two RBIs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates hit eight doubles in an 8-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.

This was the first time the Pirates had at least eight doubles in one game since Aug. 24, 2002 against the Brewers.

The Tigers struggled to generate a whole lot of offense in the opening game of the series on Monday night. They managed just three measly hits in six innings against sophomore All-Star Paul Skenes, and five hits throughout the night. The Pirates needed just a three-run second inning to score a win, snapping their three-game losing streak

The Detroit Tigers are looking for something to break them out of their recent struggles. They will turn to prospect Troy Melton, who will make his major league debut on Wednesday afternoon against the host Pittsburgh Pirates in the finale of a three-game series.

It’s Tuesday, July 22 and the Tigers (60-41) are in Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates (40-61). Casey Mize is slated to take the mound for Detroit against Mitch Keller for Pittsburgh.

The Tigers’ annual series vs. the Pirates is a matchup of the two franchises that Hall of Famer Jim Leyland managed the longest, which means a chance for Detroit and Pittsburgh fans to both show appreciation for their legendary skipper.
