President Trump keeps threatening to send National Guard troops to San Francisco, calling it crime-ridden and claiming residents want federal help

Mayor Daniel Lurie said the National Guard cannot arrest drug dealers and opposed President Donald Trump's deployment plan for San Francisco crime crackdown.

District of Columbia Attorney General Brian Schwalb says National Guard troops may be staying far longer than expected, possibly through the summer of 2026, when the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary.

The group is made up of representatives from the city attorney and "other affected department heads," Lurie explained, and he said the group meets regularly to coordinate a policy response.

California officials said they would immediately sue to block the White House from sending the military to San Francisco after President Donald Trump claimed “unquestioned power” to send in the National Guard after announcing a campaign last month to punish liberal cities with military might.
