The suspect was apprehended and charged after police investigated "suspicious activity" in Mayor Paul Young's neighborhood, the Memphis Police Department said Wednesday.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A man has been charged with an attempted kidnapping of the mayor of Memphis after he went to the mayor’s house in a gated community and was later arrested with a Taser, gloves, rope and duct tape in his vehicle, according to police.

The man accused of trying to kidnap Memphis Mayor Paul Young appeared in court for the first time but did not enter a plea.
