The National Hurricane Center said Monday morning, June 16 a tropical disturbance in the Pacific could soon strengthen into a tropical depression.
The first hurricane in the Pacific doesn’t typically arrive until the last week of June. Three have been named so far this season.
Tropical Storm Erick formed in the Eastern Pacific Ocean early Tuesday morning some 450 miles southeast of Punta Maldonado, Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
Since the start of the Atlantic hurricane season on June 1, hardly any signs of tropical cyclone development have been spotted in the Atlantic Basin.
