The defenseman has reportedly refused to report to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the team's minor league affiliate.
The Pittsburgh Penguins suspended defenseman Egor Zamula for not reporting to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Saturday. A team spokesperson confirmed the punitive measure — which followed club policy — but did not elaborate further.
Now, if Zamula clears unconditional waivers, his contract will be terminated and he will become an unrestricted free agent (UFA). He certainly could generate interest as a UFA, as teams would be able to sign him at a lower price than his current $1.7 million cap hit.
