Zach McKinstry hit a leadoff triple in the third inning and scored on Kris Bubic's wild pitch to lift the Detroit Tigers over the Kansas City Royals 1-0.

Following the series, Detroit made an announcement on a former Rule 5 draft pick who has become the Tigers' de facto closer, helping to shore up a bullpen tasked with shutting the door on opposing teams. "Our safety vest," the Tigers' X account wrote with a red and orange safety vest emoji Sunday.
